The Book Keeper

A bookstore is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking.

Attention Writers here are two great writing contests that you should enter!

First off, we have a local, teen writing contest call "Young Authors' Showcase" which is sponsored by The Organization for Literacy Lambton.  You can submit your poem or short story at The Book Keeper or at OLL.  Be sure to check out the link for all the nitty gritty details.

The second contest has a little wider scope. The CBC Literary Awards appear to be open to all ages and it is a Canada wide contest! So just write it, submit it and wait!

Hot New Books for Summer Break!

Nonfiction
This one's been flying off the shelf - the current affairs bestseller Why Your World is About to Get a Whole Lot Smaller by Jeff Rubin, about the effects that the oil crisis will have on our world.

Fiction
2008's Governor General's Award winner, The Origin if Species by Nino Ricci, is now in paperback.

"It is a truth universally ackowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains."  Have you been infected? Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a morbid rewriting of Jane Austin's classic, is the current cult favourite.

For Teens
Recently in the door at The Book Keeper are the eagerly awaited new books in two fantasy series - City of Glass by Cassandra Clare from The Mortal Instruments series, and The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan from his series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

and finally...for all you vampire fans...
Our current favourite for vampire-flavoured books is Dead and Gone, the newest in Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series.  This series was the basis for the HBO smash hit True Blood.
